The Eiffel tower is fantastic, its amazing that a structure the was meant to be temporary is still there, and that anyone would have thought of building something so huge just to take it down again! Rowan and I walked up the tower (not because we thought it was a good idea, just because the queue was considerably shorter than the elevator queues), this proved to be quite draining in the heat. It was worth it though.
Went to Paris for a weekend, arrived late friday evening on the Eurostar and spent 45 minutes queuing for a Taxi, we then were told by the taxi driver it would take us 2 minutes to walk to our hotel (what he really meant was: It'll take you about 45 minutes and you;ll get horribly lost, but I want a longer fare than you're going to give me)
The following morning after a typical frecnh breakfast in a roadside cafe, we walked from our hotel to the Boulevard Des Italiens, down the Avenue De L'Opera past the Palais Royale toward the Louvre.
After the Maze you made your way down into the grotto to get out (going back out via the maze didn;t seem very appealing) ... it was dark and cool, which was exactly what we needed after being stuck in the maze for 30 mins in the heat.
On the way out we saw the water fowl being fed, it was the strangest sight to see 30 odd swans swimming towards a bird handler to be fed, kind of unnerving in a way ... The poor peaccocks were being harassed all day by small children.
The interior of the Castle was beautiful and only a fraction of the rooms were open. The maze looked to be realtively easy, we then proceeded to get lost (along with everybody else).
